Never Stop Learning

Welcome to the inaugural Legacy Martial Arts blog!  We’ve only just opened up our doors, but there is already so much to share.

I recently took a lesson from Grandmaster Jae Yoon Ahn.  He’s a 9th Dan black belt with the Kukkiwon and was in the United States for a seminar.  Meeting him has been a dream of mine for some time, as he exhibits many of the qualities I strive for as a student in Tae Kwon Do.

What he showed and taught to me isn’t important for the message in this blog.  What is important is that you, as a practitioner of Tae Kwon Do, are always a student, and are always learning.  This is a message that Grandmaster Ahn himself said to me during our time together.  In fact, he emphasized it.  What this means to me is that you’re never done learning.  You never “know enough” or are at the pinnacle of where you need to be.  Each of us must continue to push to be better.

I want every student to remember that important lesson as we begin our school’s martial arts journey.  We must always be continuous learners-myself included.  When I say “better;” I don’t just mean at kicking or punching.  I also mean as members of our community by embodying the principles we espouse at Legacy Martial Arts.  We can’t act with integrity within these walls and abandon our tenants when we walk out into the rest of our lives.

I welcome every student to Legacy Martial Arts and look forward to training with you.  Remember, always be learning and being open to learn!  Be ready to face new challenges, and meet them head on.
